Bitdefender Virus Scanner App Reviews

106 add

WOW! Very surprised to find so much garbage and malware!

So checked older drives and archived stuff. Found 40+ bits of either trojans, malware…and suspect .exe’s…and a bunch of other garbage embedded in old emails and even an old powerpoint (Who knew something was embedded inside a powerpoint!!!)…be sure to update to the current list of malware file before scanning. The updates do catch new and old items.

comparing 4 antivirus apps

Downloaded and tested this app on the 5K iMac running OSX 10.10.3. The app is easy to use and works. I only did the simple test comparing the Sentinel Pro, Bitdefender, BitMedic, and ClamXav antivirus apps. AntiVirus Sentinel Pro - Fails the virus test. Doesnt detect the simple EICAR txt test file. Bitdefender - Passes the virus test. The paid version Virus Scanner Plus passed too. ClamXav - Passes the virus test. BitMedic - Passes the virus test. Im currently using BitMedic along with Virus Scanner Plus. The game changer with BitMedic is that it actually monitors you computer. You can leave it on and it successfully scans any changes you make to whichever drives you are watching. Virus Scanner Plus has a useful "Web protection" that seems to monitor my Safari browser which is a plus. As far as adware goes, I use AdwareMedic. Its FREE. Adware and Viruses are different. I noticed both Sentinel Pro and BitMedic actually link to AdwareMedic. Its a great app for removing Adware. So here are the highlights: BitMedic - Best for 24/7 live monitoring Virus Scanner Plus (by Bitdefender) - Best for Web protection (free version is good for a free simple system scan, but no live protection) AdwareMedic - Best for Adware and its FREE! ClamXav - Good free app for just a system scan. AntiVirus Sentinel Pro - Seems like it works? But fails all virus tests.

Seriously, this app is amazing.

For the past few days I was getting popups and adware from multiple websites. This software was great at locating the folders (etc) (I am not a tech person at all so I don’t know the terminology lol), which allowed me to delete whatever was harming my laptop. I am confident that from now on I won’t have any more pop ups. Thank you so much to the smarty pants that made this app!!

Worked great

I had some spyware preventing me from a smooth internet experience, and this cleaned it right up within an hr or so. I’m very glad that it also show you (in finder) the spyware so you can manually delete it yourself as well : )

Did not help at all.

Even after a “Deep System Scan” I’m still having the same malware problems I had before. Disappointed.

Additional Software needed for Removal

I like the App, it does what it’s suppose to Do but the fact that I need to Have a link to get another piece of Software to REMOVE the Adware makes me NOT…what to have people get this, it’s better to try other various Malware/Antivirus Software.

I can’t believe this is free and is worked like a charm!

I have been a MAC user since 2004, and have never had any problems with viruses, etc. Something happened last week and I accidentally opened something I shouldn’t have, and it basically rendered my computer useless. Not only did it add malicious extensions to my browers, but I was continuallly getting notifications from my TrendMicro app that all of these dangerous websites were trying to execute. My computer would often become unresponsive, and I was about to throw it out this window and get a new one. I had a LOT of work to get done, and I found myself wasting precious time dealing with the problems. It even messed up the order in which pages print. I am pretty tech saavy, so it just added to my frustration. Anyway, I restarted the computer, because the internet would work temporarily if I did so, updated the operating system and opened the AppStore. I was choosing between this free program and one that costs $9.99. They both had varying reviews that were good for the most part, so I decided to give this one a try first. So glad I did! It was easy to use, all you have to do is make sure that you run the updates on it a few times so you get the latest virus signatures, and then ran the “Scan Critical Locations” first. I was at first confused, because after it ran it said, “your Mac is clean” but upon further inspection, it had detected and removed two malicious files. I then ran the deep scan and it found another 7 infections, some being trojans, some .exe files that were probably in my junk emails that don’t affect macs anyway, but a BUNCH of Malware which was what I expected was the problem and had no idea how to remove. It was all removed automatically by Bitdefender, and now my computer is running normal again!!! I would’ve paid $50 at least for this program, it’s worth it’s weight in gold. And BTW, I never write reviews unless something is spectacular or horrendous. A note to the new user: If you are confused like I was about what has been found and deleted, you need to go up into the menu bar and click on Bitdefender Virus Scanner that’s in bold to the left of “File” and then hit “show history.” I hope this works for anyone else that is having a horrible time, and I can’t thank the developers of this App enough! My only question is, what is the difference between this free program and the paid one? I am absolutley sold, but it is unclear to me what another $30 can do.

question for the makers

Just downloaded this and ran a scan. The report said that there was no malware on my box. Hooray! Question though: Throughout the scan, about 5 times, a little window with a home icon on the left would pop up and it said "are you sure you want to log out?” “if you do nothing in a minute it will be logged out automatically.” I didn’t do anything to cause this to pop up. I Just sat and watched as it did its scan not wanting to interrupt its process and would hit cancel everytime it poped up asking me if I was sure I wanted to log out. So why is it asking me this if I never attempted logging out?

not sure to use it … yet

can someone confirm if this app collects information (spies) on your files or not ??

Does what it claims to do

I’ll use it every day. #hi5

Appears to just want to pull you to an non-App Store Version

As soon as you open the app, you get a message telling you to download a different version from their Web site and that the App Store version won’t catch adware. Seems like a scam to me.

installed spy ware

i’m shocked at how bad this is. I installed it and ran it suddenly 2 flash app were mounted. My computer slowed down. I try to uninstall and found I needed to download another ap. I feel betrayed by ap store.

Okay for free, but misses some stuff

I downloaded this hoping it would be all I needed. Although it found a couple of things, the past 2 weeks I’ve been plagued by popup ads and popup windows every time I click. I’ve updated the definitions and run this every day, and each time it says my computer is clean… when I know it’s not clean! Since it doesn’t cost anything, it’s good to have (since it does catch some stuff), but you’re going to need a second (and possibly a third) antivirus/antimalware software to get your machine truly clean.

didn’t work

Download and installed on el cap, wouldn’t do anything but bounce in the dock.

Are you out of your mind?

My settings explicitly say “Take no action” yet you go and delete my files — "Action taken: Deleted". Yes I confirmed, the files are indeed deleted. What world do you live in that this is acceptable program behavior?

ABOLUTE RUBBISH STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR BOOKMARKS

This is an absolute piece of junk software..it removes your entire bookmarks from Firefox browser..It belongs in the Trash can why do you guys bother to create such a trashy app?..Dont waste your time..furious about losing important bookmarks ZERO RATED

Everyone Should Have This!!!!

This is a great app, if you were redirected to a sketchy web-site or download something, and think you got a virus, it works! It found 7 virus on my Mac in 10 minutes!!! If you think you have some viruses on you mac, try this software out!

Deleted Adware Instantly

I was having issues getting on the internet or doing school work without having to x out of pages multiple times. This app got rid of that completely!

No way to undelete files deleted by BitDefender?

Today, I got a little spooked while surfing the web on my MacBook. I decided it couldn’t hurt to try an Anti-Virus scanner. BitDefender got good reviews and I think it was cheap. Anyway, I was uncomfortable with how BitDefender deleted files while doing a deep system scan so I aborted. I wasn’t sure if there’s a simple way to restore deleted and quarantined files. These files were inside zip files btw. I have Parallels Desktop with Windows 7 and Windows XP - questionable files were found in the Windows machine (I have Kaspersky installed in the Windows virtual machine - but I never did a full scan with Kaspersky). Anyway, I got uncomfortable with BitDefender deleting stuff since I may want those files back. And, I didn’t want it to begin tearing up my installed Windows programs (that is, deleting DLLs in the program files directory and whatnot). The Windows machine is isolated anyway. I aborted the scan because it seemed that some users of BitDefender had a lot of trouble restoring files deleted by BitDefender. So, I aborted the scan for now. I gave four stars since I feel that I haven’t had time to get to know this software - but wanted to communicate this particular concern.

Their support is manned by people with double digit IQs!!!

After upgrading to their paid subscription by purchasing two additional license, they consolidated the purchased licenses and applied it to a single computer. Fair enough, mistakes happen. I called them (a long wait) and they said they would fix it. It would take 24 hours for change to apply (which sure did). However, they ended up further consolidating the subscriptions to inactivate yet another previously licensed device! I previously returned therir Windows version because they were so incompetent managing the licenses. I should avoid any derogatory terms describing them, but with “friends" like these people, who needs enemies? Bottom line is, if you need them for a rainy day, you will be dealing with below average IQs.
