Bitdefender Virus Scanner App Reviews

Works wonders!

I found that my MacBook Air was running a bit sluggishly. It felt as if it were infected by a virus of some sort; but how can this be? Aren’t Apple products protected by default against malware? Well, so I thought! So, after installing and running Bitdefender I discovered there was malware afterall. Luckily, this great software removed them all successfully, and now my MacBook Air is running as smoothly as before. Thanks, Bitdefender!!

Works Great

Helped rid my Mac of 10 malware programs! Scans very fast and actually DELETES viruses, unlike some other programs (including one I paid for) on the App store which just find malware and don’t do anything other than inform you.

great

love this app.. works very well.. gives a good scan..no wonder it has a great rating on app store! sick times!

Has never completed a system scan - just hangs.

#fail I do the “Scan Critical Areas” and it works OK, if slowly. But every couple months I try a “Deep System Scan” to see if Bit Defender has been fixed yet. Nope. It’s really poor behavior on this app’s part. If it can’t be robust enough to skip a troublesome file, or deal with low memory or whatever has got it sitting on the same 18KB file for 20 minutes now, apparently doing _nothing_, how can I assume it is robust enough to detect viruses and other malware?

Not sure how I feel about this app.

Pros - This app will detect viruses, trojans and adware. It will delete a number of them, what it cannot delete it will try to place in quarantine. Downloaded free from the app store. Cons - It isn’t able to delete all the bad stuff, nor even able to quarantine all of what’s left over. It affects how you can obtain information on the web, it pops up a window telling you that it’s dedecting adware, and you have to quit and relaunch your browser - in some instances there are places you no longer can access, such as wikipedia. It does a great job of suppressing pop-up ads, except its own, which constantly pops up. It does not have itself, built in, an ability to delete adware. It tells you to download a free app for that, however that app, once downloaded tells you that there is no adware on your computer - but it does let you know about other products you may purchase. What really burns me it that it constantly is telling me that my PC is running slow because there may be malware or adware on it - but I have an iMac, not a PC. Summary - This app will work, it seems to be powerful, but it’s a real pain in the you know where to deal with.

Cannot delete Genieo

Scans the computer rather quickly but it could not delete the only adware that is found, that is Genieo. As instructed by Bitdefender, I downloaded the removal tool and a pop up indicated that Genieo has been successfully removed, but the main Bitdefender window still shows that Genieo has been detected and that actions are required.

Best thing ever!

I think this is a awesome app!some virus one day popped up and i was on safari. my computer (its a mac) went crazy. So i went to the appsote looking for antivirus detectors and found this! this is a great app and i love it! I told my grandfather about it (he also owns a mac) and he loves it! i think this is a amazing virus detector and would suggjest it to anyone who has a virus problem on there windows or mac. ~Jack Davidson

Saved My Mac

I was one step away from trhowing my mac out teh window. the constant adwre and pop ups were making me crazy. this works as advertise.

Scanner only, not the full version

This is an on-demand antivirus remover that doesnt provide realtime protection. Bitdefender wants you to buy their payware version. Ill probably use Avast instead.

Best one

I switched to this after using something else for years. It found over 40 viruses on a full system scan including adware, phishing etc on my mac that my previous antivirus never detected.

Doesnt work as advertised

I have the SearchQuick adware hopelessly locked into Safari. I bought this software to remove it. It scanned my system and announced my system was clean. This as far as I can see is a complete waste of money.

Best App ever

I was pretty sure I contracted a virus on my Mac and was freaking out and unsure of what to do. A lot of the other virus apps cost a lot of money and I was not prepared to spend anything. This app detected a ton on my laptop and quickly got rid of it and now my mac is runnning better than ever. This is seriously the best app i have ever dowbloaded and the first review ive ever written. It does what it says it will do, and thats refreshing to see

So So

This program is priced right (Free) and does some of the job, but it misses adware altogether as far as I can tell.

My Mac works now, YAY!

Ok, so my Mac has been having issues with crashing and being WAY SLOWER than it used to, so I thought “Maybe Malware…” So, I downloaded this app, ran it, it took 40 minutes to scan my whole computer, at it said no malware. The next day, I had four Word documents open at once for 4 hours without my computer crashing (which hasn’t happened in MONTHS), so I’m like “Yay!” Also, I am now able to play games again on my computer, and my computer hasn’t lagged or frozen since the app installation. (In fact, now it takes 5 minutes to do a system scan, so obviously SOMETHING happened) Thanks Bitdefender for either scaring off the malware or getting rid of it. :)

Works if you dig in a little further...

I give this app 4 stars due to it’s ability to identify all the bugs.. Not 5 stars because it does not have the ability to automatically delete or quaratine all. But still nice to be able to view in (Finder) to delete manually. Another technique I used: Opened up Finder > sort by date modified > search for unusual files > option click > add to trash > securely clear trash. I then uninstalled/reinstalled Google Chrome and reset Safari’s preferences. Key preferences to adjust in Safari are: Under privacy tab > remove all website data > ( check > ask websites not to track me) Also to limit the congestion: - under General tab - > Safari opens with > select a new window - > new windows open with > Empty page - > new tabs open with > Empty page - > Remove history items > one day - > Remove download list items > when Safari quits Under Search tab: - > unclick all … unless you prefer suggestions

it worked for me

ive had a issue for a long time now, i couldnt click on anything on the internet without getting a pop up or a new window opening, taking me to a “ buy this” page. i downloaded bit defender, ran a scan, and it said i had a virus. while running the scan bitdefender has a button to download bitdefenders virus removal tool for free. i was a little annoyed by this at first, not sure why you wouldnt include the removal with the scanner, but either way my computer works just fine now. and the remvoal tool took longer to downlaod than it did to remvoe the Vsearch virus, took all of 2 min to download :) all in all it did the job no more pop ups so i have no reason to complain, i’d have no problem recomending this to someone

Can’t remove viruses

This would be a solid app but I can not download the "removal tool”. I just click on the download button and nothing happens. So at this point all this app does it show me what viruses are on my computer. Currently Nood Good...

WILL NOT SCAN

It will not scan. As soon as the computer screen saver starts, the scanning stops too.

VSearch can’t be removed. Still good though.

I give it 4 stars because it deleted most of the problem on my computer but “VSearch” cannot be removed, which is known malware. I have noticed my computer running faster and safari is working faster with less ads.

Worthless

I ran into some nasty malware today that hijacked Safari. Couldn’t access settings, history or anythig else to get myself out of it. Bitdefender found no malware on my computer. UGH
