comparing 4 antivirus apps

Downloaded and tested this app on the 5K iMac running OSX 10.10.3. The app is easy to use and works. I only did the simple test comparing the Sentinel Pro, Bitdefender, BitMedic, and ClamXav antivirus apps.

AntiVirus Sentinel Pro - Fails the virus test. Doesnt detect the simple EICAR txt test file.

Bitdefender - Passes the virus test. The paid version Virus Scanner Plus passed too.

ClamXav - Passes the virus test.

BitMedic - Passes the virus test.

Im currently using BitMedic along with Virus Scanner Plus. The game changer with BitMedic is that it actually monitors you computer. You can leave it on and it successfully scans any changes you make to whichever drives you are watching. Virus Scanner Plus has a useful "Web protection" that seems to monitor my Safari browser which is a plus.

As far as adware goes, I use AdwareMedic. Its FREE. Adware and Viruses are different. I noticed both Sentinel Pro and BitMedic actually link to AdwareMedic. Its a great app for removing Adware.

So here are the highlights:

BitMedic - Best for 24/7 live monitoring
Virus Scanner Plus (by Bitdefender) - Best for Web protection (free version is good for a free simple system scan, but no live protection)
AdwareMedic - Best for Adware and its FREE!
ClamXav - Good free app for just a system scan.
AntiVirus Sentinel Pro - Seems like it works? But fails all virus tests.
